Stunt Scooter Grips for Good Hold
Stunt scooter grips are the rubber end pieces that are attached to the handlebars. They provide grip to improve control over the scooter and reduce the vibrations that are transferred to the hands.
There are different types of grips, some are different lengths and also different softness. The softer the grips, the grippier they are, but they don't last as long as harder grips. Most grips are made of rubber, but there are also some made of lighter foam. Rubber grips are popular because they maintain a good grip even when sweaty. Foam grips, on the other hand, are lighter and ideal for those who prefer an especially light setup. However, if they are already very worn out, you will feel the impact through the bar strongly, as the grips are too thin to absorb the impact. Ultimately, the choice depends on your personal preferences and riding style.
In general, you can mount all grips on your bar as the diameter is standardized. If necessary, BMX grips or ordinary bicycle grips can also be used.
Bar Ends for Additional Protection
Bar ends are needed to protect the grips from damage and are mainly for your safety. Most grips come with bar ends, which are mostly only suitable for steel and titanium bars. For aluminum handlebars, which are thinner inside, correspondingly thinner bar ends are required. For safety reasons, we always recommend mounting bar ends to avoid injuries on the sharp metal edges of the handlebars. Plastic bar ends wear out quickly, so durable aluminum bar ends are a better choice. These usually fit aluminum, steel, and titanium handlebars.
Installing Scooter Grips Yourself
Replacing the grips is very easy. Cut off the old ones if you no longer need them. To mount the new grips, use hairspray. The hairspray dries after a few hours and keeps the grips stable in place thanks to its slightly adhesive effect. In our workshop, we mostly use brake cleaner, which dries very quickly and allows the grips to slide on easily and not slip afterward. Simply spray the inside with hairspray or brake cleaner and slide them onto the handlebars. Once the liquid has dried and the grips no longer rotate, you can start. If you don't have either available, water will also work. Simply moisten the inside of the grips and then slide them on.
FAQ: Stunt Scooter Grips
How do I care for and clean my stunt scooter grips?
If your grips are very dirty or sticky, you can use mild cleaning agents such as dish soap. Avoid aggressive cleaning agents that could damage the material of your grips.
How often should I replace my grips?
This depends on how much you ride. If the grips have become cracked, smooth, or no longer dampen, you should replace them. If you ride regularly, you will need one to two pairs of grips per year.
What should I do if my grips slip or rotate?
Sometimes your grips may slip or rotate. You can try fixing them again with hairspray. If that doesn't help, your grips are most likely too stretched and you should replace them.
