If you're not busy shredding the streets with your scooter, we've got the perfect pastime for you: Kendama. Originating from Japan, Kendama has also made its mark in the scooter scene in recent years. Here, you can improve your hand-eye coordination, reaction speed, and concentration in a playful manner - all skills essential for scooter riding. Perhaps that's why it's so popular among scooter enthusiasts, or maybe it's simply because playing Kendama is addictively fun.
Kendamas consist of two main components: the Ken (the handle) and the Dama (the ball). Typically, you try to catch the Dama with the Ken, but over time, the tricks on the Kendama become more varied and impressive. Kendamas are made of wood, with the ball connected to the handle by a string. The great thing is that Kendama can be quickly learned, and basic tricks can be mastered within minutes. However, there's a plethora of complex and challenging tricks that keep the game endlessly engaging, and you'll soon feel the thrill of mastering new tricks. Just like scooter riding, you can also develop your own unique tricks.
Another thing scooter riding and Kendama have in common: there are real professionals who make a living from playing Kendama and take it seriously as a sport. In Japan, there are regular large-scale events and championships. There's also a small but very active scene in Europe that gathers for events. At Rideside, we regularly host such events and offer everything your Kendama heart desires, from beginner Kendamas to professional models. We're also happy to advise you on purchasing a Kendama!
